ROZMAN / SPACEHITCHHIKERS

The band / the people

ROZMAN &
THE SPACE
HITCHHIKERS.

An electronic-acoustic band built around the cello, the room around it, and a few people who know how to make a good noise without polishing all the fingerprints off.

We move from baroque and ethno to bossa nova, samba, ambient, film music, electronica, trip-hop, blues and jazz — then let rock in when it knocks.

The starting point

Tomo Rožman

Cello / composer / arranger / producer

Born in Karlovac in 1982, Tomo studied at the Zagreb Academy, graduating in 2006. He continued with a master’s in Würzburg in 2008 and another in Zurich in 2011. He has been based in France since 2013.

Along the way, he has played the Concertgebouw, Tonhalle, Théâtre des Champs-Élysées, Lisinski, Le Corum and Auditorium Rainier III. Those are the grand rooms. The useful part is that the cello still works in the small ones.

His musical range runs from baroque and ethno through bossa nova, samba, ambient and film music, electronica, trip-hop, blues, jazz and rock. ROZMAN & THE SPACE HITCHHIKERS is where those directions stop behaving like separate departments.

Zoran Rončević — Ronac

Producer / guitar / vocals / MC

Ronac comes from the Karlovac scene, where he played in Udriground and Jamaica Hippie Club. He moved through electronic music and sound design before spending 2016–2019 at Zagreb Production Academy. He is one of the people making sure the strange idea survives contact with the speakers.

04

Gordan Begler — Begi

Composer / arranger / producer

Born in Karlovac in 1969, Begi has been in a long list of bands — long enough that listing them all would start to feel like a separate project. He met Rožman in 1997 and has been composing, arranging and producing around the edges ever since, with the useful perspective of someone who has seen a lot of musical plans go slightly sideways.

05

Igor Bosak

Producer / sound designer / sound engineer

Igor is a producer, sound designer and sound engineer at Croatian Radio. Based in Zagreb and born in 1978, he brings the patient, technical ear that lets the organic parts stay organic while everything around them gets properly strange.

The first full transmission

Music for Space Stations.

The debut album is cinematic film music with one foot in a live room and the other in the edit. Cello, players, production, atmosphere and a little cosmic dust — all making a case for the big screen.
